I'm I too strict about my children's dress?

My mother says that I am. I require the kids ages 4,6 and 8 (all boys) to get dressed when they wake up even if it is not a school day. On Saturdays we are all a little lazy until noon, but I require them to get dressed by noon. I never let them just lay around all day without getting dressed. They are expeced to wear a desent shirt, a pair of shorts or pants free of holes, casual or athletic shoes and clean socks. I make them keep their shoes on during the day, but they can take them off after dinner if we are in for the night. They have to dress up on Sundays and if we go out someplace nice. Dressup means a botton down shirt, dress pants, dress shoes and socks. They also dress up on the holidays. A tie is required some of he time, but they can take it off later in the day most of the time.

I think dress is important and tells people allot about yourself and your family. I just want the kids to have good dress habits and not to just lay around all day in the jammies

I%26#039;m I too strict about my children%26#039;s dress?
I do not think you are strict at all. I think more parents need to set guidelines for their kids dress. My kids have to shower and brush their teeth daily. They are also checked before they walk out the door for school or when going out. I too do not like them to lay around half dressed all day, get out and do something! Dressing up is good too as many jobs require it. I would say my kids dress up at least 5 times a month for something.

I do not know why people are attacking you. I see kids all the time dress like yours. I mean you let them wear shorts, you let them wear tennis shoes and I%26#039;m sure you let them wear jeans. As for the shoes in the house lots of parents including I do that. It makes leaving the house so much easier. I mean it seems silly to have to take them off and put them on 20 times a day. Just leave them on! You even said you let them take them off at night. I guess these people just sit around all day eating in their bathrobs while their kids run around with snot on their nose with the feet all dirty.
Reply:I agree that it is important for your kids to get dressed rather than running around in their pjs all day. Personally, though, unless we were going out around adults, I wouldn%26#039;t mind my kids wearing clothes that are a little more %26#039;worn%26#039;. They are just going to wear them out anyway, so why not get the most wear out of them? I don%26#039;t mean dirty and stained and full of holes, but a little tattered isn%26#039;t too bad for playing. Also, I prefer that shoes aren%26#039;t worn inside of our house, so when weather permits, I prefer shoes that can be easily slipped on and off, like sandals or flip flops. Making them get dressed on Saturdays, as well as dressed up for church on Sundays isn%26#039;t bad either. You are helping them learn that their clothes need to be appropriate for where they are going.

Thanks for the interesting question.
Reply:In a word: YES.

They are children who, at this stage, have no real idea that what you are asking is stifling %26amp; not allowing them to be individuals. When they realise, they WILL rebel.

I don%26#039;t agree with lying around in pyjamas all day either but seriously...no flip flops or sandals unless it%26#039;s a special occasion?? Is that in place of lollies %26amp; treats??!

And children being forced to wear a tie when they are as young as 4 %26amp; 6 is cruel IMO. Ease up a little or they will MAKE you ease up a LOT.
Reply:I think u are too strict, the way u say require them? U should ask them to dress as soon as they have had breakfast not as soon as they wake, it dont make much of a difference to u but to them it ll feel like constant naggin, and why the emphasis on what they wear ok if they are goin somewhere nice but if they are out playin i dont see the problem
Reply:I always get my children dressed before breakfast as it makes the day go easier than trying to battle with them after breakfast.

We have a strict rule for shoes outside at all times (due to snakes) but inside its no shoes if they want. My hubby never wears bare feet though as his parents never let him, whereas I am always bare foot in the house.

At home my children wear play clothes as then it doesn%26#039;t matter if they get dirty. When we go out they dress up, no tie though as we aren%26#039;t a tie sort of family.

I think every now and then a jammy day is great, but not all the time :)
Reply:WTF? Do you want them to grow up to be control freaks? What era are you living in? We%26#039;re in the 21st century!!! I think its ok that you don%26#039;t make them lazy by making them get dressed, but seriously making them wear all that shirt and tie? Have you seen what other teens wear? There are plenty of good kids who turned out just fine and they could wear whatever they wanted. I think you should listen to your mother, I mean you turned out right and you didn%26#039;t have to wear all that stuff? Why do you make them keep their shoes on, let them wear sandals!! Live and let live!!
Reply:I agree that dress is important and tells a lot about you, but i think it is needed that you loosen up just a bit on how you let your children dress- just let them relax sometimes.
Reply:Just a little--while it teaches them how to dress later on in life, it is a bit over the fence. I%26#039;d let them take their shoes off in the house--it%26#039;s better on your carpeting; and I%26#039;d let them wear polo shirts, rather than button down all the time--and lose the ties outright.

Keeping them out of their pajamas all day is good--my folks did that with the three of us, and we didn%26#039;t end up warped. (Well...maybe I did just a bit...! :-) ) The only time we were allowed to be in pj%26#039;s all day is if we were sick.
Reply:It isn%26#039;t too good for their feet to be wearing closed shoes all the time; going barefoot or at least allowing the feet to breathe in flipflops or sandals is very healthy, for people of all ages but especially for growing children. Please take a look at the site below and decide what%26#039;s more important, appearances or foot health...
Reply:dang..let them be kids SOMetimes its fine to look nice when you go someplace, especially someplace nice or dressy. but the around the house rules sound a little strict to me.
Reply:I think you%26#039;re a little too obsessive compulsive about that. I mean they%26#039;re boys they%26#039;re supposed to be getting into things, putting holes in their pants, etc..... I mean wearing nice clothes maybe once or twice a year for something nice. Also, once they%26#039;re older they will learn about styles and what they like to wear and what they don%26#039;t like to wear. So, eventually you%26#039;re going to have to relinquish control over your power trip over the clothes. Do you still lay out their underwear for your six and eight year old? Come on lay off of them for a bit let them develop their own style instead of forcing your style down their throats. Your mother is right you%26#039;re not strict though you%26#039;re controlling their aspects of life. They have to learn to dress themselves.
Reply:I think you are to strict. dang calm it down a bit on the kids they are very young and i don%26#039;t see why you would make them dress up when they are not going to leave the house for the day and keep their shoes on the whole day until dinner. But that%26#039;s just what i think
Reply:Yes I think you are too much. Just wait until they are teen agers! I think you should rethink what%26#039;s important.

They are only 4 , 6, and 8 years old they might be used to it now but in a few years it will be a whole new story. Talk to parents of teens clothing is not such an important subject to be this demanding and controling over. I just feel they like all kids will rebel and if you are this strict about when they can wear flip flops you are going to go into culture shock!
Reply:Being that you had to ask this tells me that you think that you are too strict. Yup, I%26#039;d say that you%26#039;re strict.

Sandals or flip flops only on %26quot;special occasions%26quot; such as bbq or swimming? How about during the summer when just going out and about?

Why shoes in the house?

I%26#039;m guessing that this is a fake question, LOL, because no real parents really make their kids abide by such rules of dressing. Thanks for the giggle.
Reply:Sounds too strict to me. I totally understand what you mean by dress and apperance itself sends a message out to people about you and your family. I totally agree but then your children wouldn%26#039;t really be portraying who they really are if they are coaxed into wearing certain things. Make sure they have decent looking clothing but let them make the choice of what they want to wear when they want to wear it. The only time I am strict with my children are the holidays for church, and picture days for school that is it. Any other day they can wear what they want to wear as long as it is weather appropriate.

What are your views on children's "trainers" with wheels in the heels - don't you think that they are bad ...

...for posture and over and above that simply a nuisance? Don%26#039;t you think that it will encourage them to drag their heels when they are wearing normal shoes as they will get into a bad habit and also wear out their normal shoes more quickly?

What are your views on children%26#039;s %26quot;trainers%26quot; with wheels in the heels - don%26#039;t you think that they are bad ...
my daughter got a pair for her birthday last year, to be honest Joan she%26#039;s hardly wore them, they%26#039;re really a toy, not for wearing all the time, so I don%26#039;t think they%26#039;d effect posture, etc, plus you click a button on them and the wheel goes in to the heel so they%26#039;re like normal trainers, at the end of the day there meant to be fun for kids, like roller blades, skateboards, bikes etc, just because they haven%26#039;t been around for years and years doesn%26#039;t mean they%26#039;re bad, plus as for a danger, everythings a bloody danger, kids are more wrapped up in cotton wool nowadays than they ever were before, ffs, I%26#039;m amazed a lot of parents even let their kids get out their bed in the morning!
Reply:Let me guess...

Your daughter in law wants to buy some for her children, right?
Reply:Heelies? Yes I think they%26#039;re a ridiculous waste of space, money and effort. Couldn%26#039;t believe the shops are charging £70 for them!

And I recently noticed a sign in my local shopping centre that said %26quot;USE OF HEELIES, SKATEBOARDS AND SKATES PROHIBITED%26quot; so there must have been some incidents with them since they went on sale.

I don%26#039;t think they%26#039;re a very good idea at all, not because of heel-dragging but mostly due to safety issues. I%26#039;m surprised they were allowed on sale at all.
Reply:they are annoying for us adults ,when we are out and about in town kids coming out of nowhere nearly knocking you over .but i suppose they are the %26quot;must have%26quot; thing right now ,although my daughter wasn%26#039;t bothered about having them for chrimbo , so i%26#039;m grateful for that lol !!
Reply:i agree that they are dangerous,my friends child had them months ago and nearly went out in front of a passing car, only that the car stopped very quickly she would of been hit,i wouldnt let my children wear them for their own saftey...hope your well joan.x
Reply:I just think they are stupid in general. HATE when kids where them in public, like at a store.
Reply:Ha...you think THEY%26#039;RE bad (I do too) but just wait until the UK starts selling the Asian hit of the moment - toddlers shoes that squeak with every step they take. I%26#039;m a Brit living in SE Asia and these are the worst things ever. They are beyond irritating, they just make you want to rip the things off the poor little sod%26#039;s feet and chuck them out of the nearest window (the shoes, I%26#039;m not quite so cruel to children. Well, not ALL children anyway). Terrible. I have no doubt they%26#039;ll eventually appear in the UK, so buy your earplugs now.
Reply:I think they%26#039;re great. I%26#039;d love a pair.

As for children dragging their heels, they don%26#039;t work like that. Yes the children lift their toes when they want to skate but the wheel clicks back in and they are worn as normal shoes otherwise. Short term I%26#039;ve seen kids walking on their toes rather than kick the wheel in so if anything it%26#039;s the opposite.

Another thing I%26#039;ve noticed is the excellent posture that Heelie-wearers adapt because if they%26#039;re not standing properly they fall over.
Reply:I bloody hate them Joan...especially when the little blighters wear them in Sainsburys...and go whizzing past me....grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
Reply:I LOVE heelies and so my grandsons. Airport Staff often wear them ,which is where we saw them first. There are 2 types - the ones with the wheels underneath that will push back into the heels if necessary and the the other type that strap around the shoe.- good fun both sorts

HOWEVER

A few weeks ago while I was looking after the 8year old, I had to take him shopping and as he HATES shopping with a vengeance, we were playing a sort of %26#039;supermarket sweep %26#039; game as we filled the trolley. A young worker came up to me and told me to LEAVE the store if I didn%26#039;t make him take off his heelies ! Apparently they don%26#039;t allow %26#039;wheels%26#039; - no. obviously by the state of their trolley wheels - there- but don%26#039;t go round properly!

More chaos ensued as I put my trolley in the middle of the aisle, sat down my grandson and proceeded to bash the wheels back in . BTW we were also asked to take off our hoodies
Reply:i dont think they are a bad thing, infact my brother and mum just bought a pair for my neice yesterday! i think each parent has the right to make a desicion! and they should stick to it and not be influenced by others! just my opinion!
Reply:they are dangerous.. they are banned in some supermarkets / shopping places.

I%26#039;m waiting to hear someone was yawning, stretched their arms and accidentally clothes lined someone (like in the wrestling)

and they%26#039;ll have the cheek to sue the shop.
Reply:They are very annoying in Tesco when you have to dodge the brats riding round on them.
Reply:The staff in a Tesco superstore have been zipping around on these type of shoes for years now.
Reply:Have to agree, with you there. I can see my kids dragging their heels.

They already go threw shoes too quickly!!
Reply:I%26#039;m with you on this one Joan! I hate heeleys. Kids ride through the stores on those stupid things and around corners so fast they take out grocery carts. Sooner or later an elderly person will get hit and take out a hip.

Those shoes someone else mentioned that squeak with every step are so annoying as well. I hate hearing toddlers in walmart walking around and every little step they take those dumb shoes go %26quot;squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak%26quot; They are NOT cute shoes people - they are danged annoying!
Reply:hi the brand name is heeleys and i think they are a death trap imagine anything could happen and i hate them to bits you just as easily buy some normal skates instead of waisting even more money and time finding a pair of heeleys they are total deathtraps . hope you agree !!!!
Reply:I think they are aweful and my main concern would be the hilds posture and the damage they will be doing to their feet/ legs . There are bound to be reperussions when the child is older, feet werent designed to be used in that way and the children are leaning back on their heals in a very unatural way. My daughter certainly will never have any :)
Reply:I don%26#039;t really know that much about them joan.......apart from being a flaming nuisance when the kids wear them in my local Tescos and speed up and down the aisles !!
Reply:For those who don%26#039;t know what they are

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/ar...

They are an accident waiting to happen. The worst creation since the %26quot;chipper%26quot; bike which catapulted kids over the handlebars when they used their brakes. I can%26#039;t beleive it is legal to sell them.

Parents buy your child a scooter instead. One without a motor.
Reply:I agree with you for once, Joan. And they%26#039;re called Heelies.
Reply:i hate them they are called heelys hence wheels in heels
Reply:i got them for both my children last year

aged 9 %26amp;6 years at the time

they only lasted a month or so

they both found them uninteresting and have collected dust ever since
Reply:I dont think they are that bad. I think that as long as they do have normal trainers and shoes for school, going places with parents etc then having the wheel version on sometimes is no big deal!

I think that skates can prove a good way of getting kids to exercise-get them up off the sofa and possibly into other sports like ice skating, skateboarding etc.
Reply:personally i think its a safety hazard as well, due to falling down on slick flooring, or running into someone else. alot of area stores are banding these kinds of shoes, they wont let the child nor the parent come in to the store with the shoes on. I agree with them. I don%26#039;t want my child wearing roller skates in the house let alone a store.
Reply:Those shoes with the wheely heels? I think they%26#039;re called Heelys but I%26#039;m not positive. I can%26#039;t stand them, kids use them in public places and bump into people. I was at a hockey game on Saturday and it was very full, and lo and behold, some kid was running around on them and smacked into an older lady. I%26#039;m fine with them using those shoes on their own but not in public like that, I%26#039;m tempted to trip the kids each time I see them...
Reply:been around in the states for years .be ok for the nurses to zip around the wards though.

What does he mean? ...sold ladies...?

Republican Fred Thompson, son of a used-car salesman, remembers his years before law offices, Hollywood and the Senate. %26quot;Well, let%26#039;s see,%26quot; he said. %26quot;I%26#039;ve worked in a factory, I was a bouncer at my uncle%26#039;s drag strip, I worked at the post office, I sold children%26#039;s shoes, I sold ladies%26#039;, I sold men%26#039;s clothing, I was a night clerk at a motel.

%26quot;I can%26#039;t think of a job that I had that I wasn%26#039;t thankful for at the time.%26quot;

What children's movie is this?

Set in a cold and snowy place. The princess has two older sisters who only love jewelry, clothes, etc.. while she love nature. She is proposed to by a polar bear prince, but she can%26#039;t see his human face until their wedding night. Her sisters convince her to look at him while he%26#039;s asleep. A witch then captures him as her husband and the princess must go save him. At some point in the movie she wears shoes that can make her walk on walls as long as she doesn%26#039;t get them wet.

What is 5.88 on a ruler? 5 inches and ??

i%26#039;m ordering a pair of children%26#039;s shoes and the measurements are in inches. i get 5.25 or 5.75 but 5.88 or 6.07 no clue.

What is 5.88 on a ruler? 5 inches and ??
1 inch is graduated in 16 parts. This should mean that 1 inch is 16/16. Note that.in the ruler. Then, 0.88 x 16/16 = 14/16.

Therefore 5.88 inches is 5 and 14/16 inches

Reducing the fraction to lowest term, we get;

5 and 7/8 inches.

so 5 and seven eighths
Reply:On a ruler,. that is Five and seven eigths=

5 7/8

Recycling children's car seats. Who knows of an environmentally friendly way to get rid of old car seats?

I have a bunch of old kids%26#039; car seats that are no longer in use. Handing them down to others is no longer feasible because of expiry dates on the seats and the possibility of lawsuits. I%26#039;ve heard of programs that recycle shoes and wonder if anyone knows of such a thing for the kids%26#039; old car seats?

Recycling children%26#039;s car seats. Who knows of an environmentally friendly way to get rid of old car seats?
salvation army, thrift store drop off boxes etc. someone can use them saving them money and negating the need to make a new one.

reduce

reuse

recycle
Reply:I%26#039;ve seen quite a few posted on freecycle. Personally when our daughter grows out of her carseat we would like to get another off freecycle to keep the costs down. As it is not for profit there doesn%26#039;t seem to be any reason for people to be dishonest about them not being in an accident (which could obviously mean they are less safe).
Reply:If you are a bit of a Handy Man (or woman), you could make a more stable frame for the seat to sit in - so it will stand safely on the floor without flipping backwards. Remember to remove the straps entirely. It can be used as a comfortable seat for a toddler while watching TV or just having an afternoon nap.

If you can%26#039;t reuse in one manner, try another!
Reply:if you can not %26quot;free-cycle%26quot; them, then another alternative would be to remove all the hardware and material and recycle the plastic. I don%26#039;t know how crafty you are or if you used them for you kids but I took my oldest daughters car seat, playbed cover crib sheet ETC and made her a very large blanket after cutting it into pieces, she still uses the blanket too and she is 16 now, its fun for memories to the child.chalk this one up to a crafty Mom of 10 kids, my Mom used to do this with all our old stuff, we loved it when we could sit around on a winter day and she would sit down with us and show us the clothes we can home from the hospital in, our favorite shirt as a toddler ETC
Reply:There is a lady who is looking for a carseat~ her son was in an accident this week and cannot use it anymore~ I would suggest posting it for someone who needs one asap! Thanks!
Reply:you can take baby stuff to life choices on south main street and if they are not open you can leave the stuff on the porch there and they will get it. it is next to the drug store on south main street in phillipsburg new jersey
Reply:I%26#039;m not really sure about recycling them. I agree with the person who originally asked the question- car seats past the expiration date stamped on the seat or on the label should NOT be donated, or freecycled. Over time the plastic shell and web straps can develop imperceptible defects and become weakened. The only way to discover them is in a serious accident, which would be terrible. Safe, new carseats can be purchased relatively inexpensively and there are assistance programs out there for parents who can not afford them.

Seats that have expired should be destroyed before putting them to the curb or recycle plant. Minimally, the straps should be cut and removed, and ideally the shell should be broken, such as with a sledgehammer. I am not sure if local recyclers will accept the seats, you might check with the manufacturer for more information.

If a seat has not passed that date of expiration and has never been in an accident, by all means pass it on and let someone else get the remaining use out of it.

Kids are too important to risk their lives using a carseat that is past the expiry date.

Why do parents think they could handle being kids today?

K, I know that I%26#039;m going a little %26quot;Freaky Friday%26quot; on you guys, but why do parents always think they would, like, rule the world if they took a place in their child%26#039;s shoes?! They don%26#039;t know a thing about how life is, and then when you tell them that, they go all... %26quot;One day your children will say the exact same thing to you, and you%26#039;ll laugh and I%26#039;ll say %26#039;I told you so!%26#039;%26quot;

Why do parents think they could handle being kids today?
I think that each generations expierences are so different. Our parents were the ones that didnt carry cell phones, walked everywhere, for fun they didnt hang out at clubs. I think that we all experience the feeling that our life is harder, and I am sure it is true. I think that each year it gets harder and harder to live in this society. For instince, my parents like probably 90% of all parents out there want me to marry a guy of my own race. White, Black, Puerto Rican, Asian. All races are like that. I personally see so many biracial relationships now it is pretty common. I would have no problem dating or marrying out of my race. It has to do with our generation. In our parents time, that was practically unheard of. I think that times have changes, and parents are just oblivious to the fact that they had to deal with stuff, but the stuff we have to deal with is 10 times harder.
Reply:i kno, it pisses me off. the world is a lot different and more dangerous than wat it was in our parents day. the pressure is harder cause u don%26#039;t just have it from ur friends but, from music, movies, ads, mags, and celebrities. things were different in there time just like how it will be different in our kids time. our world always changes, nothin stays the same. and i hate when they say, i kno how u feel, maybe alittle bit but, things r still different.
Reply:cuz they dont realize how different it is now than when it wuz when they wer growin up! hmm i wish they would realize it tho!
Reply:Because it%26#039;s true. Now that I have my own teenager, I have told my mom that I now understand what she was trying to tell me when I was that age. I%26#039;ve also apologized to her several times for putting her through the cr*ap I put her through when I was young! It%26#039;s the same way with every generation and will never change. Though, each generation has their own special challenges, the generation just prior to yours is very similar - believe me, your parents understand what you are going through. They have been there and done that. You will have to wait to have your own kids to understand - just like everyone else.
Reply:What they are telling you is SOOOO true.
Reply:its true! Every generation thinks they had it tougher than the one before, and only when they reach adulthood and find out what REAL pressure is do they realise how easy kids have it, especally if they would just LISTEN to advice!!
Reply:I am a mother of 3 and I would never even want to walk in my childrens shoes these days and they know it! But parents say that to their children because our parents did it to us and yes you will do it to your kids. By the time you have your own kids you will have grown up more and figured a lot of things out and try to help your kids and they will look at you the same way you%26#039;re looking at your parents. It%26#039;s a pattern that is inevitable no matter how hard you try to fight it. Sorry. But when you%26#039;re a parent it%26#039;s kind of funny because you see yourself in your kids.
Reply:How can you say that parents don%26#039;t know a thing about how life is. They have been alive alot longer than you have. Every generation goes through the same turmoil. The only difference is the technology. I think it%26#039;s funny that the younger generation always thinks they are the first ones to have to deal with anything. I don%26#039;t have kids, so this is the viewpoint of a neutral observer, an outsider lookin in. I heard the same stories from my grandparents, then my parents, then my brothers and sisters, then my neices and nephews, and I expect to see it from their kids too if I live long enough. Everybody has to walk to school barefoot in the snow uphill both ways. Your parents don%26#039;t think they could rule the world if they took your place. They are just seeing themselves again, in you, and wishing they knew then what they know now.
Reply:Adults think that because they went through their teenage years once they could do it again, no matter what decade. But being a teenager has gotten harder recently, so I%26#039;m not sure if us old farts could hack it. I certainly wouldn%26#039;t want to go through high school again and I didn%26#039;t graduate that long ago.
Reply:that phrase is right you know. we say that to kids because it%26#039;s true. we all went through that okay. we were all kids at one time and we did bad things. we tell you that because now we%26#039;re adults, we%26#039;ve been through a lot of growing. If we can handle this adult life, we could defiantly handle an adolescents!
Reply:As a parent, I think its partly wishful thinking... its always easier to see a solution for someone else than it is for yourself. And parents really want the very best for their children, so they want to solve the problems and fix everything. Also, there really is a lot to be said for life-experience and how it gives you perspective. That said, of course life today is different from how it was for parents. They don%26#039;t know exactly what you are going through. But they probably have a pretty good idea of how what you are going through will fit into the rest of your life, even if they are not able to truely empathize with your feelings at the moment.

My advice would be to listen to what they are saying with the understanding that they do have a unique perspective, and that they totally love you, and that you also have a unique perspective and hopefully love and respect yourself, and then hey, at least you can agree on how great you are :)
Reply:Why do kids think they could handle being kids when their parents were young? I was a teenager once and knew so much more than my parents ever would, they didn%26#039;t have a clue how hard is was to be me and they never understood me... now that i%26#039;m an adult and don%26#039;t know it all, I will be raising my kids exactly the same way I was even though they will know it all already!
Reply:I don%26#039;t feel I could handle being a kid today at all!

That is why I try real hard to listen to my daughter and yet, guide her.

What your parents need to understand is that things are faster and harder, (unfortunately) than what they were back when, but at the same time, what you need to understand is that is was easier being a parent back then too...
Reply:And what exactly is so new today that wasn%26#039;t around 20-30 years ago? Drugs? we had that too. Violence? Yup it was there, and plenty of it. Peer pressure? Try again. Terrorists? Yeah even that, only they weren%26#039;t called terrorists.

We don%26#039;t know how life is? That is ridiculous, if anything it%26#039;s kids that don%26#039;t know how life is. Try paying rent, utilities, car payments, insurance, medical bills, cell phone bills, clothes, food, %26amp; entertainment. Try worrying about kids, pregnancy, injuries and a whole list of things that I can%26#039;t even think of right now.

Try thinking thing through before you say something, every parent was once a teenager, we know everything there is to know about it, not because we read it in a book. It%26#039;s because we lived through it and made it to the other side. Not listening to your elders is like trying to find a place you%26#039;ve never been without a map... not very smart.

how the sizing is determined is explained in wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoe_size

Shoe size in Britain is based on the length of the last, measured in barleycorns (thirds of an inch) starting from the smallest practical size, which is size zero.
Reply:I think the British feet measuring scale is in English inches. Most English measurements are based about the human body. For example, the thumb placed down is roughtly one inch across at the first knuckle. Horses are measured in %26#039;hands%26#039; - 16 hands being roughtly the height of a %26#039;hunter%26#039;.

The English yard is half the King%26#039;s height and is measured from the tip of his nose out to the fully extended arm and to the far end of the middle finger of his right hand. The King was six feet tall and wore size 9 - 10 shoes.

Approximately.

Old English measurements have nothing to do with science and came about in a rather haphazard fashion over many centuries.

The English Cricket pitch for example is one chain in length = to 22 yards [approx]. The railways of Britain are measured in chains and not miles. However, the roads are measured in miles.

Just don%26#039;t ask why. Except perhaps it has something to do with the nature of the people - we agree to disagree on most things and can measure how we choose. So be it.

Reply:Shoe size in Britain is based on the length of the last (the foot-shaped template over which the shoe is manufactured), measured in barleycorns (thirds of an inch) starting from the smallest practical size, which is size zero.

A child%26#039;s size zero starts with the width of a hand (four inches - twelve barleycorns) and goes up to two hand-widths, which is a size 12 (eight inches). Thus, the calculation for a child shoe size in the UK is:

child shoe size = 3 * last length in inches − 12

An adult size zero then starts at the next size up (eight and one-third inches) and each size up continues the progression in barleycorns. [3]. The calculation for a adult shoe size in the UK is thus:

adult shoe size = 3 * last length in inches − 25
Reply:9 inches

Math question?

A company that manufactures designer shoes sold 80,000 pairs in a 6-month period. If 5.5% of the pairs sold were for children, how many pairs of children%26#039;s shoes did the company sell during that period?

Math question?
Just multiply the percent by the total to calculate the portion of children%26#039;s shoes.

80,000x.055=4400 children%26#039;s shoes.
Reply:80,000 pairs x 0.055 = 4400 pairs of kids shoes.
Reply:1. Divide the percent by 100 (5.5 divided by 100 = 0.055)

2. Calculate the total number of shoes sold (80,000) times the number from step one (80,000 times 0.055)

3. Round your answer if you need to (but you don%26#039;t in this question)

Children's feet question?

I have a rule that socks are always worn with shoes but my youngest daughter likes to wear no socks with her shoes. Does anyone know if I allow no socks to be worn, what shoes would be the best shoes to be worn without socks? Thank about school days not just thongs/flipflops.

Children%26#039;s feet question?
Maybe some type of jelly shoes that have straps and cover her feet and are not open-toed. What about maryjanes or a slip on canvas shoe that can easily be washed. Shoes without socks usually equals stinky sweaty feet. Maybey she%26#039;ll outgrow it once she realizes how stinky her feet will become.
Reply:i you get mesh shoes that are breathable it would probably be ok to wear them without socks. also, if she just doesn%26#039;t like socks because they look tacky or something you can get short ones that you can%26#039;t see above shoes.
Reply:Tell her that her feet will stink (which they eventually will, then she will be the stinky kid in school) my kid did the same thing until we told her that! We had to throw her shoes away. I also got her wearing the small ankle socks so you can%26#039;t see them with tennis shoes. They are thin and she doesn%26#039;t complain anymore. We did not give her an option to not wear them, if she didn%26#039;t we told her to go put them on.
Reply:I beleive in the philosophy of doing what feels right.

Reply:Keens! They are sandal/shoes. They are good for all activites.
Reply:maryjanes keds like shoes (there are no name brand ones that are just the same) dress sandals
Reply:sandles..no socks. runners can be too but some may cause blisters. How about a compromise...anklet socks
Reply:how about finding a thinner ankle sock. If that%26#039;s still not working

Just look for a casual tennis shoe with a good lining that is stitched well to the shoe.
Reply:No socks can make the shoes (sneakers mostly) SMELL! The socks absorb the sweat. It can cause alot of chaffing on your childs feet. I do the same thing %26quot;WHERES YOUR SOCKS?%26quot;

Because you have a daughter you are lucky. They now have those shoes and sneakers where there is no back to them, they have socks for it too. Try that.
Reply:My daughter is the same. I bought her a pair of mary janes that are some type of suede ( not real suede they are from target!) they are really cute and they pretty much go with everything.
Reply:socks should be worn with everything but sandals and flip flops. pantyhose with dress shoes
Reply:If you live in a warm climate, how about moccasins?
Reply:Vans traditional slip ons and low-cut converse are worn without socks. My advice, put odor eaters with an arch support in before she starts wearing them.

My daughter also wears the slip-on type tennies (with the cut-out heel) without socks. Can%26#039;t use them for PE though.
Reply:some kind of comfortable, padded sneaker ( running shoe ) would probably be best....

my grand daughter wears %26quot; Keds %26quot; sneakers with no socks all the time.......put cornstarch/baby powder in them at night to absorb sweat and odors......

Reply:Sneakers can be worn without socks...loafers too. If she doesn%26#039;t want to wear socks don%26#039;t make her. Stop worrying about socks and pay attention to the bigger issues that will crop up during her growing years.

How much profit can be made owning a children a baby/ children's boutique?

We are in the process of opening a childrens boutique that sells clothing, shoes, and accessories for newborn to toddler age children. I am wondering if anyone knows what kind of monthly revenue sales I could expect - on average.

How much profit can be made owning a children a baby/ children%26#039;s boutique?
Good luck to ya girl. I dont think anyone can even begin to estimate a monthy revenue without knowing more about the business. It depends on your location, cost of merchandise, rent, utilities, advertising, employees, etc, and how good business goes. You may very well lose money for awhile. Im sure youve heard that most new businesses fail. So I hope your monthly revenue sales are huge-beyond your dreams. But no one can say for sure!

How can I be civil to my ex for my children's sake?

I am trying to be civil to my ex wife when around my children, but when I see them, her boyfriend is always there. He is the one I caught her cheating on me with and I just can not stand to be in the same place with him. He was at my sons birthday party, and also when she asked me to come pick out baseball shoes for them. I have had a serious confrontation with him and was able to restrain myself from becoming physical with him but he is always there and I am concerned that it will escalate. Any advice? Im trying to show my sons something different than just kicking his butt. Which by the way is what my Dad would have done in my position.

How can I be civil to my ex for my children%26#039;s sake?
It sounds to me, that you have a good head on your shoulders and have a foundation started for dealing with this. You have recognized that this is a problem that has to be worked on. The best advice I can give you is set a good example for your children. Let go of the past, what%26#039;s done is done. If you get into a situation where you feel like it could become physical, remove yourself from it for a while. That will give you time to reflect on exactly what it is that is irritating you so you can deal with it. Children love both parents and shouldn%26#039;t have to take sides. It is ok to be angry but it is not ok to act on it. Face the pain and the anger you have and learn how to communicate with your ex so all of you can be on the same page and not push each other%26#039;s buttons. You have a good start! Good luck!
Reply:It will only escalate if you allow it to. You need to stop blaming this boyfriend for the break-up of your marriage. Interestingly enough, you can stand to be around your wife, and yet she was equally culpable in adultery. So instead of taking out your anger on both of them, equally, the boyfriend is the sole focus of your anger.

Understandable, but not productive. Understand that he does not hold 100% of the blame, and perhaps he won%26#039;t get 100% of your anger.
Reply:ask your ex is it possilbe when you come and see your kids that the boyfriend isn%26#039;t around.let her know you are having problem with seeing him and that you want to stay civil for the children sake.things like shopping for shoes tell her that you and the kids will go together so you wwouldn%26#039;t have to be in this guy presence.somehow though you the ex-wife and the boyfriend will have to get along for the kids sake.
Reply:who cares what your dad would have done in your position. Do you think that justifies you if you do let it escalate?

Get something through your head - your wife cheating on you was not this man%26#039;s fault. She is the one who made the choice to destroy her family - she chose him, more than likely by doing what most cheaters do, feeding him lies. The ONLY person you have any right to have any animosity to when it comes to this is you ex.

quite frankly, you should pity the poor guy - what happened to you is going to happen to him eventually.

You are no longer married, your ex has a right to move on with her life, with this guy, or any other one. As do you. Stop living in the past, get yourself out on the market and meet someone better. If you can%26#039;t, then get into therapy to help you move on, as well as learn techniques for anger management.
Reply:tell her that leave him at home and that have separate birthday parties thats what i do with my kids. and tell her how you feel and she should be by herself if she wants you along to pick out baseball shoes etc. hope this helps
Reply:p is for poison
Reply:You sound like you still have feelings for her.

Just treat her as your children%26#039;s mom and you will be a better person than she is.

your children will notice!!!!!!!!!
Reply:why yopu mad at him?

it%26#039;s you ex wife that you should be angry at if at all

she is the slut that went behind your back...

if anything i would have no ill will towards the guy

keep the blame on where it belongs

your ex

not him

if anything be exceptionally cool towards him

after all if he is willing to take over, let him take over payments

let him get married to her

let him get divorced from her ( as you know she%26#039;ll cheat yet again ), let him have all the headaches

you have been libertized and you do not even know it

be cool to her as well

show the kids you are the better parent and stronger one

the damage, btw , to the kids is done

they are smart enough to know mommy messed things up

in time they will turn on her

and then she have to deal with rebellious teenagers

i also bet you married too young

realize that mistake and never marry again

as you now see there is no benefit for it for a man
Reply:I%26#039;m right there with you. My ex is the same way...he takes his new relationship and throws it in my face at EVERY possible opportunity. I seriously want to rearrange his face sometimes, but I just think back to how bad he hurt me, and I refuse to sink to that level. He wasn%26#039;t worth it then....and he isn%26#039;t worth it now.
Reply:Imagine that you%26#039;re trying to teach your sons what a really classy guy acts like. Which is not to say that acting with restraint and civility is wimp behavior - it is not. It%26#039;s the stuff of maturity. It%26#039;s the way people who are well-brought up contain their anger and make other people around them think, %26#039;Wow, how does he do that?%26#039; That%26#039;s not to say that your dad was wrong being an a**-kicker; it%26#039;s just that he wouldn%26#039;t inspire others to settle things peacefully, now, would he? The Arnold Schwarznegger hero punching out the bad guy was great on the screen but now that Arnie%26#039;s the governor of California, he hardly ever rips a new one in someone who disagrees with him.
Reply:Kill him with kindness. Be nice because it shows a great life lesson to your son. That you can be nice to people when they have done you wrong. rest assured they will have to reap what they have sowed. And you don%26#039;t have to do a thing. Keep your anger in control. When the time comes and your ex is crying about something that has happened between them then kindly remind her how she treated you.
Reply:You need to stop being selfish and only thinking of yourself, pal. It is not about you, about him or your ex-wife.....it is about your kids! Hey, even God can%26#039;t change the past and neither can you. It is OVER and everyone else has moved on but YOU! Just STOP.....stop being a jerk. So, she cheated and then married the guy.....get over it. You will be connected to this woman for the rest of your life and you can either make yourself miserable and be the outcast or you can let the past be the past and do what is the right thing for your kids. Kids sense things and your goal is to be a role model for them. Take charge of yourself....now go do the right thing!
Reply:I commend you on your efforts. Ultimately it is about the children. If you blow up then it will absolutely set a horrible example for the children. And if you %26amp; your ex ever go to court over custody issues it could be terrible.

Try to take your ex wife aside %26amp; NICELY inform her that what she is doing is disrespectful %26amp; puts the kids in a tense situation. Birthdays maybe, but stuff as trivial as shoe shopping could she please leave the guy at home to avoid conflict. If she%26#039;s ignorant about it quickly end the conversation to avoid further trouble.

Just keep doing what you%26#039;re doing. One day, when your kids are older %26amp; closer to adult hood, they%26#039;ll somehow put the pieces of this chapter together (don%26#039;t tell them, of course) %26amp; your ex will have to deal w/ that. You are showing your love %26amp; respect for your children every time you display restraint for their sake. Keep that in mind when it gets tough, because I;m sure it does. Good luck %26amp; may I just say, good job, Dad!
Reply:You are being a good dad!!! I know it must be very hard but you are setting an excellent example for your kids. You continue to be the bigger person....trust me, you will be glad you did down the road. Good luck !!
Reply:You are the true %26quot;Super Dad%26quot;!

You deserve a big pat on the back. Way to go!

Take a deep breath and look at her. Now..think for a moment....would you really and truly want her back?

No. She%26#039;s a cheater. So...guess what he got....a cheater...so guess what she%26#039;s going to do to him....

Okay, with that all said. You know you can be civil because theses two people are not people your kids will admire. Oh...don%26#039;t get me wrong...they will always love their mother.

However, they can look at you and really have a great roll model. Besides..they did you a favor. Now you get free time to do those things you didn%26#039;t because she said no...and spend fun time with your kids...that most of us take for grated.

Good Luck and Great Job!
Reply:Try changing your attitude. If you don%26#039;t think of her as your wife, and he%26#039;s the homewrecker, it will change the way you handle these situations.

Try thinking of her as someone you used to be married to, and this is her new guy, it will help. Also, remember that your children%26#039;s lessons are more important than you feeling better.

You also might try some grief counseling. It may sound strange, but divorce is a death, too; it%26#039;s the death of a marriage, and you may need to come to terms with your loss, so that you can move on.
Reply:be civil to my ex for my children%26#039;s sake
Reply:I admire your sense of responsibility to your children. My husband%26#039;s father got the snot kicked out of him in front of his wife and 4 kids and my husband has never forgotten it. As tough as it is, you%26#039;re going to have to be the adult in the situation because if your ex had any sense, she wouldn%26#039;t want to expose the children to the negative feelings when you%26#039;re around.

I know this isn%26#039;t much help but pat yourself on the back. Not a lot of men can say they maintained their composure under the circumstances and believe me, your kids will notice.
Reply:Good for you for being the better man.If I was you, pull your ex wife on the side and tell her that you feel that it is in no way her boyfriend business to be where you and her are doing things for YALL children. He isnt anything to them.I know it may seem wrong but I dont think he needs to be there when it comes to yall children. You and her made those children, not him and you two.Good Luck...

Also dont hold all your anger on him,it takes two.She is wrong, just as much as he is...
Reply:I sounds like your doing an amazing job and being a super wonderful father. Your setting a good example for this love of your life. your son.....

You sound like a nice guy. you seem to have a good attitude to words how you handle yourself. keep it up.

Just remember it%26#039;s going to hurt your X when she starts to notice that you don%26#039;t care for her or her partner. make sure you make it know that the only reason that your even in there presents is because of your son.

Does anyone know any good ideas for writing a children's story?

I have to have at least something like a lesson to be learned like tying your shoes or learning how to multiply. this story is for children nine and under

Does anyone know any good ideas for writing a children%26#039;s story?
If people give you their ideas, you are technically stealing, even if that might sound hokey. Here are some ways to get creative on your own. Reminisce about your own childhood memories and modify them to make them more like a good story or an interesting one. Paint, look at images on the web [in a search engine type children, or animals or something whimsical] Almost anything can inspire you! Have fun!

PS: Have you ever thought of taking an old fairy tale and changing the plot and possibly the setting, while keeping the characters? Check out the flick Everafter to see what I mean. The story is a typical fairy tale in the beggining, and changes into a cute modern day children%26#039;s story which is much more interesting.

Remember not make a plot predictable or boring! This has been done already and is totally played out.

Educational- make sure you include pictures to show how to do or what whatever it is that you are trying to teach. don%26#039;t have too many big words.

Humorous- make sure you include pictures and rhyming word that aren%26#039;t real but little kids would know what the are (such as poopy-doopy or icky-rick.y)

Advice for cruising with young children?

We%26#039;ve already booked a cruise on Norwiegan Cruise Lines to the Mexican Riviera. We%26#039;re taking our 21 month old and almost 5 year old kids with us. We%26#039;ll have extended family with us to help out as well.

I%26#039;m trying to think of everything we%26#039;ll need and I%26#039;m sure there will be things that I can%26#039;t come up with on my own. Any suggestions?

I%26#039;ve already bought the cloth swim diapers (they don%26#039;t allow the disposable kind). I have water shoes for both kids. We have a brand new bottle of sunblock. Reply:You are gonna need toys for them and other things to do. Bring both child%26#039;s favorite toys especially for the hotels. Not alot for little ones to do other than the pool and if your at hotel for awhile that gets a little old. I brought some paper and crayons and books lots of book. Reading to the kids calms them as well as occupies their minds. Have fun

Advice for cruise travel with young children?

We%26#039;ve already booked a cruise on Norwiegan Cruise Lines to the Mexican Riviera. We%26#039;re taking our 21 month old and almost 5 year old kids with us. We%26#039;ll have extended family with us to help out as well.

I%26#039;m trying to think of everything we%26#039;ll need and I%26#039;m sure there will be things that I can%26#039;t come up with on my own. Any suggestions?

You already sound pretty prepared, the rest is really up to your parenting style!

As long as the kids see it as rewally fun, it won%26#039;t be hard at all. The moment they get bored is when its going to be a parental nightmare.

If the cruise has a nanny-service for some of the time, that could give you guys some time off to do %26quot;grown-up things%26quot;. Holidays with kids are a wonderful and bpnding experience, but it leaves very little time for the adults to actually do what they want to.

I hope you guys find the perfect balance! There is no advice I can give you that you probably haven%26#039;t already considered :D
Reply:Never let them out of site nor let them wonder alone and let them eat and drink the right things.
Reply:i took a small blow up two ring pool on my cruise.i blew it up and placed it next to my beach chair(there are no baby pools on a cruise)for my child to play and at night i used it for a tub because there are none.i also would bring some dish detergent to wash sippy cups with as you will probably need them.also some kind of swimmies for your older child as the pools are deep.also..i always pack some kind of double sided velco strips ,come in handy to block off a room that small with a sheet or something.it will give you some privacy to read or watch tv without the kids seeing you.i managed and it was great...have fun oh yeah...bring a dvd player and some of their movies for entertainment.
Reply:Don%26#039;t....just go with your husband and leave the kids with your mother. Trust me.

At what age do most girls go into adult shoe sizes?

Im 13 and most kids in my class were size 8 before i was size 5 but I was still shocked when I found I could no longer fit children%26#039;s shoes. Also what age do girls feet stop growing?

At what age do most girls go into adult shoe sizes?
I grew fast. so it all depends how fast you are growing.

that also goes for when the feet stop growing.
Reply:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOHbmxteZ...
Reply:Probably, like 15.

However, if you go barefoot a lot your feet will get bigger.
Reply:it depends on genentics and how fast you are growing yourself...there is no set age really...i was in womens shoes at the age of 10-11
Reply:I have a 13-year-old daughter who was wearing women%26#039;s sizes before she was six years old. Unfortunately, she inherited her father%26#039;s large feed and she now wears a size 11 in women%26#039;s. I think her feet are still growing and she will eventually have to wear a size 12.

Another thing I%26#039;d like to mention is that even though women%26#039;s foot sizes can remain stable for years after their feet stopped growing, it is possible for them to go up a size after they%26#039;ve had a baby. I had to get rid of a bunch of shoes after I had my first daughter because they no longer fit me.
Reply:that%26#039;s strange, i go barefoot a lot and my feet have gotten nearly two sizes smaller since i stopped growing :s

Generally your feet will stop growing when you do

Baby Shoes & Sandals?

My child will be born on January 1 (if he%26#039;s on time) and I wanted to buy some cute shoes for him for the summer, I am not sure what size he will be though. I know that it will not be the same for any child but is there a website where you can see how big your child%26#039;s feet will be at a certain age? I tried googling it but I can%26#039;t find anything

Baby Shoes %26amp; Sandals?
This isnt exactly the answer you were looking for but it might help!

ROBEEZ!!! I absolutley love them and my daughter couldnt take them off. www.robeez.com

they go by 0-6monts, 6-12 months, ect my daughter wore 0-6 moths until she was 10 moths and now she is 16 months but still in 6-12 month size. Plus she is big for her age and always has been. I%26#039;d get some 0-6 month ones.

good luck!!
Reply:Buy a 3 or a 4. He%26#039;ll be 6 months old and about in that size range by summer. BUT, no two kids are the same. He could be 6 months old and wearing 12 month clothes and size 5 shoes, or he could be really small and still wearing a 2. It%26#039;s better to just wait until you get to the spring to buy his sandals. If you find clearance shoes now and buy them, just keep in mind that they might fit and they might not. Hope this helps!
Reply:sandals
Reply:I hate to give such a boring answer like this, but I say don%26#039;t waste your money. There%26#039;s no way to tell what size or style you might want. If he%26#039;s crawling by then, you%26#039;ll need shoes for crawling. By end of summer, he may be pulling up and cruising and you%26#039;ll need shoes for that. Shoes are the hardest thing to buy ahead of time.
Reply:I know this isn%26#039;t really the answer you were looking for, but you should wait until summer gets closer to buy these shoes. You can see how big your child%26#039;s feet are growing. (My son always had feet much bigger than his age - he was wearing 12-18 month Robeez at 7 months!)

Also, most shoes in stores at this time of year are for winter. If you want shoes appropriate for summer, you won%26#039;t see them in stores until spring.
Reply:I agree with the first answerer: Robeez are the way to go (or, if you%26#039;re cheap like me, the Target knock-offs which are about 1/3 the price). Children younger than 2 should not have hard-soled shoes, so these are just perfect. PLUS they are sold by %26quot;age%26quot; like baby clothes, so you can buy him whatever size his age will be, and they will be pretty close!

books

Do you think children should know the truth about?

This famous wicked little tale

Should never have been put on sale.

It is a mystery to me

Why loving parents cannot see

That this is actually a book

About a brazen little crook.

Had I the chance I wouldn%26#039;t fail

To clap young Goldilocks in jail.

Now just imagine how you%26#039;d feel

If you had cooked a lovely meal,

Delicious porridge, steaming hot,

Fresh coffee in the coffee-pot,

With maybe toast and marmalade,

The table beautifully laid,

One place for you and one for dad,

Another for your little lad.

Then dad cries, %26#039;Golly-gosh! Gee-whizz!

%26#039;Oh cripes! How hot this porridge is!

%26#039;Let%26#039;s take a walk along the street

%26#039;Until it%26#039;s cool enough to eat.%26#039;

He adds, %26#039;An early morning stroll

%26#039;Is good for people on the whole.

%26#039;It makes your appetite improve

%26#039;It also helps your bowels to move.%26#039;

No proper wife would dare to question

Such a sensible suggestion,

Above all not at breakfast-time

When men are seldom at their prime

No sooner are you down the road

Than Goldilocks, that little toad

That nosy thieving little louse,

Comes sneaking in your empty house.

She looks around. She quickly notes

Three bowls brimful of porridge oats.

And while still standing on her feet,

She grabs a spoon and starts to eat.

I say again, how would you feel

If you had made this lovely meal

And some delinquent little tot

Broke in and gobbled up the lot?

But wait! That%26#039;s not the worst of it!

Now comes the most distressing bit.

You are of course a house proud wife,

And all your happy married life

You have collected lovely things

Like gilded cherubs wearing wings,

And furniture by Chippendale

Bought at some famous auction sale.

But your most special valued treasure,

The piece that gives you endless pleasure

Is one small children%26#039;s dining-chair,

Elizabethan, very rare.

It is in fact your joy and pride,

Passed down to you on grandma%26#039;s side.

But Goldilocks, like many freaks,

Does not appreciate antiques.

She doesn%26#039;t care, she doesn%26#039;t mind,

And now she plonks her fat behind

Upon this dainty precious chair,

And crunch! It busts beyond repair.

A nice girl would at once exclaim,

%26#039;Oh dear! Oh heavens! What a shame!%26#039;

Not Goldie. She begins to swear.

She bellows, %26#039;What a lousy chair!%26#039;

And uses one disgusting word

That luckily you%26#039;ve never heard.

(I dare not write it, even hint it.

Nobody would ever print it.)

You%26#039;d think by now this little skunk

Would have the sense to do a bunk.

But no. I very much regret

She hasn%26#039;t nearly finished yet.

Deciding she would like a rest,

She says, %26#039;Let%26#039;s see which bed is best.%26#039;

Upstairs she goes and tries all three.

(Here comes the next catastrophe.)

Most educated people choose

To rid themselves of socks and shoes

Before they clamber into bed.

But Goldie didn%26#039;t give a shred.

Her filthy shoes were thick with grime,

And mud and mush and slush and slime.

Worse still, upon the heel of one

Was something that a dog had done.

I say once more, what would you think

If all this horrid dirt and stink

Was smeared upon your eiderdown

By this revolting little clown?

(The famous story has no clues

To show the girl removed her shoes.)

Oh, what a tale of crime on crime!

Let%26#039;s check it for a second time

Crime One, the prosecution%26#039;s case:

She breaks and enters someone%26#039;s place

Crime Two, the prosecutor notes:

She steals a bowl of porridge oats

Crime Three: She breaks a precious chair

Belonging to the Baby Bear.

Crime Four: She smears each spotless sheet

With filthy messes from her feet.

A judge would say without a blink,

%26#039;Ten years hard labour in the clink!%26#039;

But in the book, as you will see,

The little beast gets off scot-free,

While tiny children near and far

Shout, %26#039;Goody-good! Hooray! Hurrah!%26#039;

%26#039;Poor darling Goldilocks!%26#039; they say,

%26#039;Thank goodness that she got away!%26#039;

Myself, I think I%26#039;d rather send

Young Goldie to a sticky end.

%26#039;Oh daddy!%26#039; cried the Baby Bear,

%26#039;My porridge gone! It isn%26#039;t fair!%26#039;

%26#039;Then go upstairs,%26#039; the Big Bear said,

%26#039;Your porridge is upon the bed.

%26#039;But as it%26#039;s inside mademoiselle,

%26#039;You%26#039;ll have to eat her up as well.%26#039;

Goldilocks. Written by Roald Dahl

Do you think children should know the truth about?
Wow ! What a well written story! I never thought of some of these things but it is just a fairy tale. So...Goldilocks commits crimes of B%26amp;E, theft, (petty though with the porridge),

Now the chair is a felony, as it is valuable, and in crime four, she is just a dirty girl and should wash up the bedding. I%26#039;ll let the judge sentence her and change this whole story.

What about Little Red Riding Hood? The wolf wants to eat her as he disguises himself as Grandma. Whatever shall we do to the big bad wolf?

The beauty of fairy tales is that we can make them anything we want to be. How cruel is it to sing a lullaby to your baby, when the bow breaks and the cradle will fall? If the baby lives, this is child abuse and if it doesn%26#039;t it%26#039;s murder. Interesting!

What is more important to children's foot health ...?

Buying children properly-fitting shoes that give their feet protection from the elements and support or buying them fancy-looking trainers with flashing lights and so on because they %26quot;want%26quot; (not *need*)them and so storing up problems for them in the future?

I had to scrimp and save to clothe my four boys (admittedly with help from my Mother and Father which I gratefully accepted) but one thing they always had were properly-fitting shoes whenever they needed a new pair and they were the one item of clothing not passed down from the older to the younger ones or shared between them.

These days of course some children hardly walk anywhere but I take my grandsons walking shopping and to the park and wish that they be properly shod - their feet will have to last them for a lifetime as all of ours will and need care especially while growing - I only hope that today%26#039;s parents take that on board.

Best wishes,

Joan.

What is more important to children%26#039;s foot health ...?
proper fitting shoes.

i always buy my daughters shoes in clarks and get her feet properly measured each time.

i know its expensive but what price can you put on your childs feet (and health in general)?
Reply:Children should have good shoes, certainly. That is not to say that the fancy looking trainers with flashing lights are bad. They could be in far worse, and frequently are!

Most kids trainers will have a certain amount of arch support built in, unlike some of the cheap dress shoes on offer. It%26#039;s the plimsoll and thin soled shoes (which can be very expensive) that I have the problem with... not to mention those tiny stiletto heels for kids... not only gross, but asking for foot problems later!

Like most everything else, trainers are fine in moderation, and are good for running and jumping etc, as long as they%26#039;re not worn ALL the time!
Reply:I believe they have certain standards they use for all children%26#039;s shoes these days. So any shoes bought should be alright. The only exceptions, really, are certain sports, where you need specially designed shoes.
Reply:It is quite possible, these days, to get shoes that are both well fitting and supportive as well as stylish. I don%26#039;t think there necessarily must be a compromise when seeking both.
Reply:The proper fitting shoes, of course. I didn%26#039;t have much money either, so my son understood at an early age that all those frills cost money, and to learn what%26#039;s really important. He was just as happy with those ten dollar sneakers. (And some of them look pretty sharp, too.)
Reply:Of course, we have to look after the whole of bodies, but I was always brought up with properly fitted shoes, and even now both my boys are in their teens, they still have their feet measured and shoes fitted! I had feet that turned inwards as a I walked and my mother religiously sent me for physiotherapy as a child which corrected my problem. I do agree we have to look after feet - and also our teeth!

Sometimes you have to pay a little extra but you can get properly fitted jazzy and trendy trainers!
Reply:you can have both the flashy shoes just are appealing to kids and parents but they are well made. At least most brands are. We buy Stride Rite and other well made shoes but we buy things that we think are cute. Also there are very very very few plain shoes nowadays especially for little girls. They all have lights and sparkles etc. Fancy shoes like that are not like shoes for us they do offer good support for their feet.
Reply:Shoes are different now to how they were way back in your day. You do not have to spend a fortune to get a good shoe. Often the cheaper ones can be a good fit.

Mine have orthotics so Yes I take very good care of my childrens feet but I find to get shoes that fit the orthotics I often have to go for a cheaper shoe
Reply:What%26#039;s wrong with trainers with flashing lights? Oh, sorry I forgot, Joan doesn%26#039;t approve of it. Must be wrong then.
Reply:How do you know the trainers with the flashing lights don%26#039;t fit? Just because they%26#039;re not orthopedics doesn%26#039;t mean they%26#039;re damaging to a child%26#039;s feet. And children should be able to have fun with their clothing. Those shoes aren%26#039;t hurting your grandkids one little bit.

I hope your DIL has a yahoo account, and sues you one day over the way you portray her.
Reply:i had the same concern as my eldest was born with twisted feet on asking the specialist what was best he suggested trainers it does not matter weather they have flashing lights or not they are better for growing feet as they Lowe them to st reach and give a lot more than shoes so both of my boys wear trainers except for school when they we are good shoes also trainers are cheaper than shoes and as children shoes are almost as expensive as adults and as they grow out of them very fast it make economical sense
Reply:I have always bought %26quot;proper%26quot; shoes for my children for school because they are wearing them for like 6 hours a day and need the support to their feet. However, I compromise and get them trainers for the weekend. If you can get them from a discount sports shop you can get leather trainers for £10 to £15.
Reply:Its nice to have shoes you enjoy although their main function is protection for their feet they should also thave good innersoles....if you go to the right stores... you can get light up shoes or other %26quot;fancy%26quot; shoes for cheaper than other shoes
Reply:more of a statement then a question so my statement (more so then an answer) back is you raised 4 boys(upstanding citizens i%26#039;m sure) and get to be g-ma now (i read your other ?s) so let your DIL raise her kids jus cause her way is diff. doesn%26#039;t mean wrong or right jus different you%26#039;re putting your son and more importantly your grandsons in the middle of 2 ladies they love as much as ya%26#039;ll love them good luck to you

My three-year-old is starting ballet class, should he have a "split-sole" shoe?

My son is going to be starting ballet class, so I went online to order him shoes, but some of the children%26#039;s shoes have what they call a %26quot;split sole%26quot; and some do not. Which does he need? What is the purpose of the %26quot;split-sole%26quot; shoes?

Please don%26#039;t say, %26quot;ask the instructor,%26quot; because I can%26#039;t. She won%26#039;t be available to speak with until next Friday and I need to order the shoes now so they%26#039;re here in time. I tried asking other staff members at the facility, but they didn%26#039;t know anything about the dress code for the classes. Worse case senario, I get the wrong kind and have to order new ones and he wears the wrong shoes for a couple of weeks until the new ones arrive, but at least he%26#039;ll have something on his feet.

My three-year-old is starting ballet class, should he have a %26quot;split-sole%26quot; shoe?
Get normal soled shoes... not the split sole. Split sole is for stuff like jazz dancers (a pad at the top and a pad at the heal), the regular soles are full even over the arch of the foot and a beginner needs that because it provides proper arch support
Reply:No you need to get single sole shoes... split sole is for advanced or older children. He needs a single sole.. no split sole..

The purpose of split soles are that they have soles on the heel and ball of your feet to be able to point your feet better and flexability...

The difference between single and split is that the sole on a single sole covers the whole bottom letting the person point their foot to a certain way.. which helps install NOT sickiling their foot... which is a bad thing..

So... for your three year old get single sole!
Reply:i wouldnt, generally u should just go with a normal full sole one. really u get split soled shoes for jazz or modern
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t.I didn%26#039;t get split sole until I was 9. They%26#039;re meant more for older kids and jazz.
Reply:No split-sole shoes are for people who are more advanced in ballet. I would start him out with a full-sole because it helps strengthen the foot. and then if her really likes ballet and he keeps dancing then first ask the instructor (not now but later if he really likes ballet) if he%26#039;s ready for split-sole.

Good Luck!

hope this helps!
Reply:At my dance studio, the dress code is split-sole ballet shoes. It really depends on your studio. I%26#039;m sure some of the other parents are wondering which type too.
Reply:For younger kids you should just get the normal kind. Thats what I wore when I was 3 years old and so did everyone else. Split sole shoes are more expensive (atleast where I used to shop) and their for more advanced dancers. I don%26#039;t think it would be a problem if you bought him the split sole but I would go with the normal kind:)
Reply:I would get your son normal sole shoes for ballet, split sole shoes are used more in contempary, jazz, modern, hip hop etc. Split sole shoes are more expensive anyway, so you would be saving that all important cash! Lol. if your son does want to join a class that would be more suited to split soles though, do not buy him them until you are both confident in that class, because you may find yourself buying a £70 pair of shoes that will never be used.

i hoped this helped.
Reply:I%26#039;m a ballerina and I love split sole. Get split sole, their easier to move in and they%26#039;re not as stiff. Full sole shoes aren%26#039;t as good and arches don%26#039;t look as good. Men primarily wear split sole too.

I am twenty-one years old and petite at 4'9. I need help finding fashionable shoes, etc..?

Everytime I go shoe shopping for pumps or heels, I have the hardest time! Usually I will fit into a size five women%26#039;s, but with heels, I%26#039;m having problems. They%26#039;re just a little too big and the only other size to go down to is a children%26#039;s! Does anyone know of a good store that sells petite shoe sizes that are also fashionable? I don%26#039;t want to look like a granny or a four year old. Also, finding jeans seems to be hard as well. I%26#039;m usually a size 1-2, give or take, but the legs are always too long. I%26#039;m getting frustrated, and I%26#039;m just curious if there%26#039;s any hope out there for us petite women of the world! Thanks!

I am twenty-one years old and petite at 4%26#039;9. I need help finding fashionable shoes, etc..?
I sympathize, but I also want to tell you one reason why you%26#039;re lucky: sale shoes and table samples are usually still available in your size when there%26#039;s absolutely nothing in larger sizes! :)

As for your problem, I know that Nordstrom does a great job of stocking a massive variety of sizes, and will special order things for you. They started out as a shoe store, so they have a better selection than most department stores. You might try ordering a shoe in a narrow size, or getting the heel or ball-of-foot inserts. I have to get those sometimes (I%26#039;m between sizes). My sister has an extremely narrow heel, so she has problems as well, and Nordstrom will give you all sorts of inserts free when you buy the shoes (if you ask for them and need them, of course!)

I think I%26#039;ve read that Zappo%26#039;s online shoe store has a massive array of sizes. I know I%26#039;ve seen people advise hard-to-fit shoe shoppers to go there, but I think there%26#039;s also another place I%26#039;m forgetting. (Sorry!)

And just in case you haven%26#039;t checked it out, if you%26#039;re ever looking for non-heel shoes, especially in summer, they actually have really cute stuff in the kid%26#039;s department. I was kind of bummed last year that they had an adorable pair of leather flip-flops that were only in the kid%26#039;s department. You also might find some low heels there. I had some beautiful shoes when I was about 10 or 11 that came from children%26#039;s shoe stores and were heels I%26#039;d wear now. If they were still in fashion, that is! :)

Good luck!
Reply:oK check out saks fifth ave. there great there sales people will help you find the exact heel your looking for and get the jeans while your there, there famous for there designer brands but there servise is always widely known :) saks.com check it out i love that store Report It

(i didnt belive it) but i went there and the jeans were actualy on sale and they fit! and that NEVER happends to me so you may want to try them out GOOD LUCK with your shoes though, thats gotta be hard
Reply:HELLO!!!!! yes.... im like 5%26#039;3%26quot; and thats probably all thats going to happen. lol ...i find that nordstroms actually has some good heels, also if u dont mind the prices, saks fifth avenue has some high-quality-fit-well shoes....lol..... i tend not to go there so much, just because my bank account isnt *that* fat. haha, but as for the jeans, i would say get them tailored....usually the places will make them look as fashionable as when u first had them, just shorter, so they actually fit!! i hate it when my jeans always get so ripped and ratty at the ends!!!!!

also, the store %26quot;two lips%26quot; is a shoe store that has some nice heels, not that much $$$!!!! yay!! lol good luck!!!

MOMMIES HELP!!! Kids Shoe Question?

You know how a mens shoe size is different than a the same size in womens shoe?

Is that the same for children%26#039;s shoes?

MOMMIES HELP!!! Kids Shoe Question?
Nope boys and girls wear the same size. A 2 is a 2 whether they are pink or blue.
Reply:No, children%26#039;s shoes are the same size regardless if it%26#039;s for a boy or a girl.
Reply:Definitely its different. It depending on their age and size of their feet.Children feet r still growing tat is y it is important to get for them a gd pair of shoes and sandal tat are rigid so tat it prevent them to get feet problems.
Reply:no. it is the same when it comes to kids shoes whether you are boys or girls
Reply:Not in the UK - the fitter uses the exact same measuring device.

But if you are buying non-fitted shoes, single width girls shoes are often narrower than boys shoes.
Reply:No kids shoes are the same
Reply:I found this on wikepedia under US and Canada shoe sizing:

%26quot;Children%26#039;s sizes are equal to men%26#039;s sizes plus 12.33. Thus girls%26#039; and boys%26#039; sizes do not differ, even though men%26#039;s and women%26#039;s do.

child shoe size = 3 * last length − 9.67%26quot;
Reply:kids shoes are the same as adults. male and female footwear may have the same numeric size but actually will be larger or smaller depending on the gender they are made for.
